Description

The CEM’s Empowering People Initiative (EPI) focuses on the critical socio-economic elements that are needed to drive a just and equitable energy transition. This high-level panel of regional and international partners, co-hosted by the Skill Council for Green Jobs, will explore strategies for empowering workers, businesses, and consumers to transition to a carbon-neutral, circular and sustainable economy. In this session we will discuss what is needed for effective collaboration in the development of policies and programmes that can be leveraged by governments and other stakeholders for the scale-up of equitable solutions. The session will include a focus on the jobs and skills needed in the clean energy sector. Questions to be explored include:

  • What partnerships and initiatives are countries and organisations undertaking to ensure that workers have the skills to support a just clean energy transition?
  • How can we ensure that clean energy transitions are equitable in terms of access to skills development opportunities and jobs?
  • What are some of the critical challenges or barriers faced in moving these initiatives forward?

Outcomes:

  • Concrete steps and recommendations for countries that are just at the beginning of this process.
  • Fostering a community of practice focused on workforce and equity.
